Change Your Vision, Explore New Horizons with Travel Healthcare

Ian, a travel healthcare worker, assists a patient in a medical setting, symbolizing the theme of the blog 'Change Your Vision, Explore New Horizons with Travel Healthcare

Ian looked back on his decision to follow the path of working in allied healthcare right out of college. He was proud to have a solid job with good perks, but after six years he started wondering if there was a different way to work. He had heard friends talk about travel healthcare, but had a lot of unanswered questions. It sounded fun, but he wondered if he would like all the differences he would have to adjust to. Still, he was intrigued by the idea of traveling to different locations and meeting other healthcare travelers, so he continued to think about it.

Getting to work early was one of Ian’s better habits. It gave him time to get ready for the day ahead, which was usually about the same, sometimes too much the same. Most of the people he worked with were just getting started in their careers, so he did not have a lot in common with them, other than they all did the same kind of work. In some ways, Ian was feeling a sense of inertia. He wanted to make some changes in his career, especially adding some variety and flexibility. To have the freedom to make more of his own decisions was very tempting to Ian.

He could see himself making some changes that would add some diversity and freedom to his otherwise stagnant career. But how?

When his fellow co-worker came in with fresh blueberry muffins one morning, she announced, “Happy Healthy Vision Month” and it jostled a thought loose in Ian’s head. Maybe that’s what he needed – a change in his career vision to a healthier, happier, more exciting way to think about work. He thought this change could actually change his life in positive ways. Why not have more adventure in his work? Why not embrace the flexibility of being a travel healthcare ‘explorer.’

The next day Ian reached out to Anders Group. The recruiter at Anders Group was glad to hear what Ian had to share and invited him to meet for a chat about his career change and discuss where he wanted it to take him.

Ian’s New Career with Anders Group

Once Ian made the switch and joined Anders Group, he started traveling to New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado. He finally got to see the Royal Gorge and explore the cultures of the Hopi and Navajo. Texas was special because he had wanted to see the Alamo since he was a kid. It was fun to have the freedom to select where he wanted to work and an adventure to work in different hospitals where new procedures were introduced.

Ian especially liked the opportunity to make an impact in communities that really needed healthcare workers. Many of them had been understaffed for a while, so his working there made a difference. It was also a chance to learn new techniques and charting systems to broaden his skillset..

Being able to maintain his financial security was a major plus for Ian when he joined Anders Group. In fact, he was earning more as a healthcare traveler than he was at the old job he left. Stepping outside his comfort zone and gaining valuable life experiences was challenging but fun, too.

Choosing assignments based on location, specialty, and duration was such a freeing experience. His old job was so much the same day after day. Now he had the freedom and control to tailor his work to his career goals and his travel preferences.

Sure, starting a new venture can seem daunting at first, but the support offered by Anders Group is amazing. The Anders staff works diligently to find the best assignments in your preferred location. You never feel alone. There’s always someone there to answer a question or solve a problem.

And even though you may miss friends and colleagues you’ve worked with for years at your traditional job, remember, you will be making new friends and building new relationships as you travel and work.
